THE LEGAT FOUNDATION OF RUSSIAN CLASSICAL BALLET is accredited by THE BOARD OF DANCE QUALIFICATION & TRAINING [BDQT]

THE LEGAT FOUNDATION, originally THE FEDERATION OF RUSSIAN CLASSICAL, was set up as a Charity in 1995 by John Gregory & Barbara Vernon Gregory.

It is now run by Moya Vahey as Chairman with the board of trustees and

 Nicolai Tsiskaridze & Irek Mukhamedov as Presidents.

 

Examinations are held in the Legat system from Preparatory through to Advanced 1&2.

Each examination ends with a short solo to show the dancer’s knowledge of rhythm & performing skills.

The solos for Advanced 2 were choreographed by the great Russian ballerina Tamara Karsavina.

Columbine’s solo from Harlequin Serenade, for the girls & Harlequin’s solo from the same ballet, for the boys.

  JOHN RAVEN Born 22-4-1935    Died 14-11-2021. John did his National Service in the RAF, during that time, for a dare, John & some mates went to a dance class, he enjoyed it so much he decided to be a dancer. He joined The Legat School of Russian Ballet & was trained by Nadine Nicolaeva Legat & Lydia Kyasht,  but John’s most important teacher was Valentine Prowitsch, who taught him Double Work & Character. I remember two amazing pieces choreographed by Mr. Prowitsch, Black number was a very clever pas de trois, one girl, John & Mr Prowitsch all in black & unseen, making all the lifts even more amazing.   The other ballet was Prince Igor with John & Anna Truscott dancing the most beautiful pas de deux. John’s career gave him parts in many TV shows including DR WHO, The Welsh National Opera etc. For more than 20 years John was the Double Work Teacher in all the big Dance schools, each day of the week he was at a different school lifting every girl

  Soviet ballerina Tatyana Legat died in Moscow at the age of 88 Moscow.  January 27th.  INTERFAX.RU  - The famous Soviet ballerina, Honored Artist of the RSFSR Tatyana Legat died at the age of 88 in a Moscow hospital on Thursday, her daughter Alena Solovyeva told Interfax. According to her, death came suddenly.  Legat spent several days in the hospital, before that she led an active lifestyle.  In recent years, Legat worked as a teacher-repetiteur at the Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg, but with the onset of the pandemic, her relatives moved her to Moscow. Legat was born in 1934 in Leningrad and is a representative of a ballet dynasty.  Her great-grandfather was a student of Marius Petipa - Gustav Legat, whose sons also became dancers and choreographers. Legat entered the Leningrad Choreographic School in 1943, during the blockade.  She completed her studies in 1953, immediately after graduation she was admitted to the Mariinsky Theater (then the Kirov Theatre), on the stage of

THE LEGAT FOUNDATION Newsletter 2019                                                                         Editor: Tamara Dragadze    dragadzeuk@aol.com As the year comes to an end I want to put a few lines down to act as a Newsletter and on behalf of the Legat Foundation to wish you all a wonderful New Year 2020. We are starting it off with a bang because on Sunday, January 5 th, , 2020, at midday , we will have our AGM at the legendary Colet House in London. Address: Colet House, 151, Talgarth Road, Hammersmith, London W14 9DA. It is where Nicholas Legat taught and ended his days. We hope that any member who can make it will come 12-4pm.
